Apple iMac 27 Inch 2019 Review – Is this a perfect alternative for iMac Pro?

Apple updated the iMac for 2019 introducing 27 inch iMac 5k. The design of the 2019 model is still the same because there is nothing wrong with it. If you decided to upgrade your iMac, you will be able to take advantage of the chips multi-threaded capability which essentially means that there are 8 processor core in the core i9, but because it can handle multiple processing threads simultaneously you can get twice amount of thread there are 16 threads of processing power that means their working load like photo editing, financial model or weather forecast could go much quicker depending on the apps you use with this new core i9 version.
iMac 27-inch is one of the products from Apple which is getting quite popular among the professionals. This state of the art piece of technology is amazing. iMac 27-inch 2019 has several upgrades and you can also choose the GPU and SSD as per your requirements but all this comes at a great price. 5K display is certainly one of the great features of this iMac. Core i9 processor brings more power. However, there are some things which might seem annoying to you.

The base model comes with a low RAM of 8GB and the default hard drive from Apple is not SSD. Apple update iMac in 2017 and now the company has put even more thought into it to make it a great choice for professionals. However, Apple also released iMac Pro in 2018 which is a powerful PC but it comes at a great price which is why not everyone could afford it. iMac 27-inch (2019), on the other hand, is a perfect PC for those who want to have a great experience like iMac Pro but can’t afford it. The basic features of iMac 27-inch (2019) are almost the same as the previous generation iMac 27-inch but you can upgrade all the necessary specs and enjoy an experience just like iMac Pro.

Design

Apple iMac 27 Inch
The design of iMac is exactly the same which is definitely not a surprise to us and the same will be the case with you if you are familiar with Apple’s routine with the design of its products. It’s the same old design and Apple hasn’t changed it since the iMac 2012 came out. This particular model is 27-inch, however, there is one another option of 21.5-inch if you want to try that one. The design is simple yet elegant as it always has been. You will spot the classic “Apple” logo right below the screen.

The power button is on the back left side of the iMac. The stand is also the same and there is the power cable slot right in the middle bottom on the back side. You can move the screen to adjust as per requirements but you must know that it moves only up to 30 degrees. You will find all the slots on the right back side of it. There are 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports and 4 USB 3.0 ports. You will also find an SD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is also an Ethernet slot. iMac 27-inch (2019) weighs 20.8 pounds and its dimensions are 25.6 x 8 x 20.3 inches.

Keyboard and Mouse

A wireless keyboard called Magic Keyboard and a wireless mouse called Magic mouse 2 come in the box along with the power cable. The designs of the Magic Mouse and Magic keyboard are also pretty much the same. The keyboard features smooth keys for a good enough tying experience. Other than the Magic keyboard with no numeric pad, you can choose the magic keyboard with the numeric keyboard. There is also a Magic Trackpad which you can buy separately. All these accessories work really well with iMac 27-inch 2019.

Lack of Memory and internal storage

Despite all the great features, the lack of memory in this machine might still bother you. At this time Apple should have gone for 16GB RAM but they are still sticking with 8GB RAM. Certainly, a creative designer or a high-end artist will definitely appreciate at least 16GB RAM. However, you can upgrade the memory on iMac 27-inch (2019).

Apple is still sticking to fusion hard drives. To get an SSD drive in your iMac 27-inch you will have to upgrade and pay more. To avoid paying extra you might have to use external SSD.
Price and Availability
With all its charms, iMac 27-inch 2019 might already have taken a spot in your heart and you must already be yearning to bring it to your working desk. However, it should be quite clear that this machine will cost you a fortune. The base model starts under $2000 but as you upgrade the price goes higher and higher. 21.5 inch iMac starts at $1099 but the 27-inch iMac base model with the 8th-generation 6-Core processor starts at $1799. The price of this machine can go as high as $5000. If you can afford this machine you will get to see that Apple is right this is “Pretty. Freaking powerful” machine.

Final Verdict

There are a couple of really great things about iMac 27-inch (2019) but at the same time, you will also have to compromise on some other features. Low RAM and internal fusion hard drive are definitely disappointing. However, if you can live with the fact that the base model comes with a low RAM and you want a great PC with amazing display and performance at the end of the day then this is the PC for you. It is the closest you can get to iMac Pro at a lower price. If you can afford this PC, it will really turn out as a great computer you might always have wanted.
